At Home

2020 GROUP EXHIBITION

A dialogue between form, light and ephemerality.

During thDuring the lockdown, I have been finding myself enclosed within the area of a hyperrectangle a.k.a. a box- such as the overall architectural structures of my room and of our homes in general. This aspect brought to my attention the possibilities of exploring new ways to reshape enclosed space, particularly regarding the diversity of what can be considered home and how can a home be perceived as- such as the snail’s coiled shell. Subsequently, I have expanded the ‘broken’ nature of a prism, thus, I have substituted its constraints with the continuous complexion of circular structures.

My work encompasses and appropriates ideas that reflect upon Fibonacci’s sequence and Joseph Albers’ Bauhaus paperfolding. Embedded within this series of ephemeral sculptures, an amalgam of architectural-sculptural elements conveyed at different stages of creation contributes to the constant progression and metamorphosis of the work. I have developed a set of 5 sculptures, 4 of which are the product of build-ups and juxtapositions of previous sculptures -e.g.- Untitled III is the by-product of merging Untitled I and Untitled II respectively.

Light itself plays a major role within my work, it adds emphasis and concludes my finalised sculptures. The participation of light inserts a fourth dimension to my 3D work and therefore, enhances a codependent relationship between elements.

What happens when Sculpture becomes directly conditioned by its architectural context and vice versa?
